I will be headed to NM for some spearing soon and was doing some research. Quality Waters Inn is located on the San Juan River about 1/2 mile from Fisheads Lodge. Thats cool, except the DB rule about you must be a NM native blah blah blah. Fisheads Lodge is located onsite at the Fisheads Lodge, Fly Shop and Back Cast Café and has fly tying tables in each room. I did catch them on hook and line though.
There were big stripers in Elephant Butte even though I was a scuba spearo at the time. Both Conchas and Ute are very large and offer great diving experieces. There is another lake that I have not dove but would like to sometime that was by Ute Res called Conches Lake. New Mexico has a lot of great oppertunities for big fish.
However, a powerplant was constructed and is owned and operated by the city of Farmington, New Mexico, under a license issued Octoby the Federal Energy. The authorization did not provide for construction of a powerplant at Navajo Dam.
Funny thing is the series went away after that year. Navajo Dam was constructed by the Bureau of Reclamation and was dedicated on September 15, 1962. His name went on the trouphy as the state champ. He said you had to live in New Mexico to have your name put on their purpetual trophy. There was a guy by the name of Jim Summers who was a fire fighter who use to run a series of tournaments in New Mexico. Ute Res out of Logan New Mexico which is on the Eastern plains of New Mexico and Nationals at Navajo out of Farmington. Elephant Butte down In True or Consequences.
